3rd March 2015 Meeting

Hi everyone,

Tuesday is the first Leeds MAG meeting in March @ The Royal Hotel (LS28 8PR) from 8ish
I was going to say that it looks like spring is here, but on waking up this morning and opening the curtains I’ll save that for next time.

Politically it’s been quiet over the last two weeks but on the events side it’s been busy.

Tickets are on sale now for all the Yorkshire MAG rallies and if you buy all three at once online, you’ll get a limited edition t-shirt for nowt!

Austin Vince (Mondo Enduro) tickets are selling steadily. If you’ve never heard of Austin, he traveled the world with his mates on a shoestring on DR350’s and was the inspiration for Ewan and Charlies “Long way round” trip. He’s a brilliantly funny bloke with many hilarious and inspiring tales of his adventures. It was also announced this weekend that Mondo Enduro has been voted the number one motorcycle movie of all time in an online poll – don’t miss out on the opportunity to meet the man himself.

We’ve got a Spring party on 21st March at the Royal which should be a blast.

Finally, we’ve got Comedy night tickets for sale now for 31st March – we’ve got a guest comedian that you’ll not want to miss…….

Leeds MAG bargain hunt challenge is GO!

Leeds MAG went to Otley car boot sale and were challenged to buy one item to sell on eBay – ALL profits will go directly to MAG. All you need to do is click on “Leeds MAG bargain hunt” and all the items we bought will magically appear for your perusal. Feel free to bid on the (ahem) beautiful items chosen by our discerning members – remember ALL profits go to MAG to help protect riders rights. The winner will be whoever makes the biggest profit from the 99p start price and will win the Leeds MAG bargain hunt trophy for 2015. This auction finishes at 7 pm GMT on the 22nd of Feb, so get bidding!

Leeds MAG Meeting – 3rd Feb

Tuesday 3rd February is the next Leeds MAG meeting @ The Royal Hotel, Pudsey, LS28 8PR from 8pm.

We’ve lots to discuss as always and the events list is filling up rapidly.

At the AGM it was decided that we need a list of Leeds and Bradford motorcycle and scooter clubs and we need the memberships help to put this together.

We need to know club names, where and when they meet and a contact email or phone number (and name).

If anyone knows any details of any local clubs, no matter how big or small, can you let us know?

Leeds MAG AGM – 20th Jan 2015

Tomorrow is the Leeds MAG AGM at The Royal Hotel (LS28 8PR) from 8pm in the function room upstairs.

I’ve attached the minutes of last years meeting which has all the committee positions on it. I encourage anyone that wants to get involved to step forward and join the team that runs MAG in Leeds and Bradford.

I’ve also updated the events list. Don’t forget that you can order your tickets for our Austin Vince evening (Mondo Enduro – google it) on the Leeds MAG website. It’s sure to be a great evening and will be a great fundraiser for MAG if we can sell out.

Buy one item for a maximum of a fiver.

Meet in “The Bowling Green” pub, 18 Bondgate, Otley, LS21 3AB (Google Maps) at 1.15pm prompt to appraise (take the mickey out of) the purchases. Then each person does their own write up to sell the item and we put them all on ebay. The person that makes the most money will win a prize and all money raised will go to MAG.

6th Jan 2015 Meeting

News

Happy new year to everyone,

This coming Tuesday (6th) is our first meeting of 2015 @ The Royal Hotel, Pudsey (LS28 8PR) from 8pm.

We’ve got plenty of things to chat about and the Demo ride to start planning, so why not start the year by coming along and joining in with your local group – without the members involvement there is no group! Tuesday 20th Jan is the Leeds MAG AGM @ The Royal, Pudsey – all positions are up for re election (Leeds MAG Roles On The Committee).

If you’d like to get more involved with the running of Leeds MAG put yourself forward – you’ll be made more than welcome.

We now have tickets for our “Evening with Austin Vince” event on sale. They’re available from Squires Cafe, Leeds MAG meetings or on our website using paypal (oooooo get us getting all posh). For anyone that hasn’t heard of Austin Vince, he did the longest land route (44,000 miles)around the world in the shortest possible time with 6 mates, with no backup, financial support, sat nav etc. and was one of the inspirations for Ewan and Charlie’s Long Way Round trip. For anyone who hasn’t seen one of his talks, you’re in for a treat and we can potentially raise good money for MAG, so your support is needed – at £7.50 its a bargain night out.

The upcoming events list is filling up nicely – again, your support is needed to make all our events a success. Here’s hoping that 2015 brings plenty of dry roads and good riding.

18th Jan – Yorkshire MAG and MAP Regional meetings. MAG meeting @ 11 am, MAP meeting at 1 pm. Both held at The Breighton Ferry, Breighton, Bubwith, Selby YO8 6DH.  (Google Maps link)

20th January – Leeds MAG AGM @ The Royal Hotel (LS28 8PR) from 8pm. All positions are up for re-election, so if you fancy helping to run your local MAG group, put yourself forward. Don’t forget to bring your MAG membership card to be allow you to vote

8th February – Leeds MAG Bargain Hunt – a fundraiser with a difference! Pop along at 12 noon to buy one item from Otley car boot sale for a maximum of a fiver. 15th February – Leeds MAG annual Fred Hill run from Squires to The Sun Inn at Norwood. Meeting from 10.30am to leave at 11.30am prompt to ride in convoy to The Sun to remember the sacrifice made by MAG campaigner, Fred in 1984.

March

21st March – Leeds MAG presents “A right Royal Spring party” from 8pm @ The Royal Hotel (LS28 8PR) Rock DJ, free entry, raffle, great selection of real ales. All profits go to MAG

25th March – Leeds MAG Easter egg run to Lineham Farm childrens centre. Meet at Cardigan Fields car park from 6pm to leave at 6.30 prompt to ride to the farm for 7pm. Bring as many Easter eggs as you want

31st March – 4th Leeds MAG Comedy, Curry and Cake night @ The Cross Keys in Morley from 7.30pm. Tickets £5 from Leeds MAG meetings or on the door

April

3rd – 6th April – East Leeds Lions Easter Rally full details @ eastleedslions.co.uk

10th-12th April – MAG AGC hosted by the South West Region. Full details as soon as we have them but we will be riding down for it en masse. Camping is available nearby. Should be a fun weekend 😉

18th April 2015 – Leeds MAG presents “An evening with Austin Vince” Before Ewan and Charlie there was Mondo Enduro – 6 mates with DR250’s going around the world on a shoestring. This is the hilarious and inspiring one man show that is sure to get you thinking that maybe you could do “the big trip” (or if not, just laugh your head off at the scrapes encountered along the way) @ Squires from 8pm. Tickets £7.50 at MAG meetings or buy online for £8 + postage. Includes camping – food and bar till late.

Fred Hill Ride – 15th Feb 2015

Fred Hill made his peaceful protest against the helmet law from 1976 until his death on 10th February 1984, in Pentonville prison, aged 74. This was halfway through the last of his 31 prison sentences.

Fred’s uncompromising stance on the helmet law thrust him to the forefront of riders rights as he refused to wear a helmet or pay the fines for doing so.

It must be remembered that the helmet law on itself is NOT the issue. The issue was and still is the individual’s right to freedom of choice.

MAG’s ethos of let the rider decide is as relevant now as it ever was, especially considering the current EU meddling!
