Leeds MAG “40 Years of action” day
After a week of wet and windy conditions, we awoke on Saturday 25th May to the weather that we’d ordered, which was blue skies and sunshine.
When we met up at Squires café and the car park was packed!
At 1pm we left in convoy to head to West Leeds Sports and Social club via a circuit of the city centre. Just over 200 bikes and trikes met up with the police escort on the outskirts of Leeds and we were treated to a lap and a half of the city centre loop, with waving pedestrians on every corner, then on to the venue for the days activities.
Upon arrival we all parked up and everyone started shedding the layers to lap up the scorching weather, whilst enjoying a beer and a burger, while the judges got busy choosing the winners of the bike show.
After an afternoon of chilling out the evening party commenced. We had planned a “battle of the bands” but were let down by one band on Thursday and then another on Friday, leaving us with just one new band called “Dirty Vinyl” who agreed to act as a support band at the last minute to the brilliant Suicide Blonde.
Everyone was very impressed with Dirty Vinyl and even more so, when it was announced at the end of their set that it was only their fourth gig! So we booked them for our Halloween party on the spot! – We’ve certainly unearthed a talent.
A rip roaring day was finished off at 3am, with an impromptu and very drunken game of killer (pool) which added another £20 to MAG funds after the winners Dawn and Sid donated their prizes to MAG.
Winners on the day were…… Best bike – Gary Hirst’s R1
Best Trike – Wooley’s Zetec
Best Custom – Anton Mack’s Harley
Best Scooter – Abby Benton’s Sinnis
Gary Strain memorial best in show – Gary Hirst’s R1
The “name the dog” was won by J. Butterfield who took “Shep” home with him!
Many other raffle prizes, donated by local dealers, were found new homes, apart from pink 261-265 and pink 251-255 (contact Manny to claim if you’re a winner)
The biggest winner though was MAG with the day raising just over £600 profit!
Well done to all the bikers who helped on the day and special mentions must go to Team Sober, GEMCC, Huddersfield MAG and the couple from Manchester who stayed all day and rode back home at midnight! Bring on the next 40 years!
